Surfactants in the textile dyes industry

The dye bath has a large surface tension, does not wet the fabric so the dye does not penetrate. Adding surfactant reduces surface tension allowing dye molecules to move inside the fiber. As the absorbent concentration increases, the permeability and penetration of the solution increases, but counting a certain increase in the concentration of the absorbent will not increase the permeability anymore. The most absorbent are anionic surfactants such as soap, red oil, and alkyl sulfate-like compounds.

Nekal BX is usually produced in brown paste, easily soluble in water, highly absorbent, so it is used as absorbent when cooking as well as dyeing.

– Soap

Sodium salt of some fatty acids with the general formula CnH2n + 1COONa. Soap is a surfactant that has long been produced and is the most widely used. It has the advantage of being cheap, has a strong bleaching effect, so it is used primarily for washing. However, soap has the biggest disadvantage that when it comes to hard water, it will precipitate and reduce its performance significantly.

– Red oil (alizarin oil)

– Absorbent Wetta-NTD-93

Wetta-NTD-93 (wetting agent) is produced from some typical vegetable fat oils, synthesized to form a derivative with the main active ingredient is acidrixinoleic sodium sulfo ester.

– A liquid, viscous dark yellow, slight odor.

– The chemical composition consists of a mixture of anionic surfactants, which can reduce surface tension and quick penetration.

– Content of surfactant in the product: 65 + 1%; density at 20oC: nearly 1.1; pH = 7.

– Easily soluble in water, does not precipitate in hard water.

– Outstanding features: infiltration, emulsification and cleaning.

– High wetting ability, medium foaming level.

– Stable in acidic, weak alkaline and neutral environments, not reducing activity in the presence of electrolytes.
